Meet us
Welcome to Vale da Luz, the valley of light.
We chose this name for a reason because we strive to live consciously and lightly, in tune with ourselves and nature. At Vale da Luz, our intention is to illuminate what's real (because we're realists at heart), work towards a bright future, and stimulate creativity, community, and resourcefulness.
Vale da Luz began when Dennis and Dara decided to leave Amsterdam behind to live in nature. Our project began in 2021 and is ongoing, as we restore buildings, plant trees, and work tirelessly to transform the land. We're both midlife but haven't lost our playful spirits; we’re figuring out farming as we go and creating a life that feels right to us.
Our small farm sits in a mountain valley at the edge of the village Entre a Serra. Luz (as we affectionately call her) is a welcoming place because time, external obligations, and the madness of modern life just don't matter here.
Our ultimate goal is to become a retreat centre and hub for like-minded community. But there are many steps along the way. We take them day by day working alongside volunteers and the guests that visit us.
