Our place

Our 4-hectare property is built on stone terraces facing a mature pine tree forest. There are five buildings being restored, some once housed animals and the main house dates back to 1915.

A mountain stream runs through the land, guided by underground tunnels—a unique irrigation system hundreds of years old—and along a schist wall covered by grape vines. The stream also flows directly into our swimming pool. The Tamolha river is at the foot of the property. We're blessed with cold, pure water, its spirit and flowing energy.

The property was once a thriving family farm and uninhabited for over a decade. A few years ago, a major fire burned hundreds of pine and cork trees on the hills behind the house, but pine seedlings are rapidly coming back, making the hills green again.

The land maintains its magical charm and grows more beautiful with the attention that we give it. There’s a sort of spacious serenity here that’s hard to describe but easily felt.

Location

We're tucked away in a mountain valley near the village of Figueiredo, about a 25-minute drive from Serta, a town of 15,000. In Serta, you will find shopping, restaurants, small summer festivals, and a health centre.

Serta is about 2.5 hours away from both Lisbon and Porto by bus.

Our area is full of rivers, river beaches, and schist villages. Living here is like stepping back in time, when life was simple, entertainment meant watching the stars at night, and you learned to depend on your neighbours. (It’s ideal if you like these things, but hell if your idea of the good life means binge-watching Netflix.)
